Summary
Slide shows a Latvian weaving tablet and illustrates the weaving technique involved. A narrow band of red and white patterned weaving is shown in process. Tablet weaving, also known as card weaving, incorporates the use of pierced cards or tablets to create a shed during the weaving process. It is one of the oldest techniques of producing narrow-band textiles in Northern Europe, predating the use of looms. Tablet weaving allows the weaver to create very detailed patterns.
