Summary
Black and white photograph of a female assistant using a photographic plate measuring machine to measure the precise positions of stars for the international Astrograph Project, around 1905.
This photograph was probably taken at Melbourne Observatory, but may have been taken at Sydney Observatory.
The machine being used is probably one made by Repsold & Son; Melbourne Observatory purchased two machines, in 1899 and 1902. They were subsequently sent to Sydney Observatory; one is now held by the Powerhouse Museum: see their registration number H10066.
