Summary
Copy of a medal bearing a portrait of Diane de Poitiers, Dutchesse de Valentinois. The original medal, by Alexandre Olivier from a design by Pierre Regnier, was struck by Monnaie du Moulin in the period 1600 to 1635. This two piece electrotype copy was made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. It is thought that this electrotype was produced in association with an exhibition of medals in the King's Library in 1881 and was acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria where it was displayed probably in the late 1880s.This two piece electrotype is silver plated and toned. The original was probably a struck silver medal from the collection of King George III in the British Museum collection (Reg. G3,FrM.814)
