This badge is part of a campaign from New Zealand opposing the extensive programme of French nuclear testing in the Pacific area. A total of 193 nuclear tests were carried out between 1966 and 1996 in Polynesia, on the islands of Moruroa and Fangataufa. These islands were also the site of protests by various vessels, including the Rainbow Warrior, owned by Greenpeace. The main concerns of the protestors were the large environmental damages, ranging from dead fish and reef damage to radioactive contamination across the area as well as the wellbeing of the locals.
