Round badge with the slogan 'World Peace' probably made around 1950. In Australia, this period marked by the aftermath of World War II and the gradual onset of the Cold War was met with a flourishing of peace movements. The year 1949 saw the formation of The Australian Peace Congress, while in 1950 they organised the Australian Peace Congress.
Part of collection of badges collected by Jim Cooper, a veteran member of the Building Workers' Industrial Union (NSW Branch) and Union and political activist before his death in 1984. His daughter passed the badges on to Alf Zeeno, ex-secretary of the BWIU, with a request that they be donated to the museum.
Physical Description
Circular badge with a long pin fastener at the back. Blue background with a stylised black globe and a white dove carrying an olive branch. Around the globe there is a white sache with blue printed words on.
