Summary
Alternative name(s): Button
Part of collection of badges collected by Jim Cooper, a veteran member of the Building Workers' Industrial Union (NSW Branch) and Union and political activist before his death in 1984. His daughter passed the badges on to Alf Zeeno, ex-secretary of the BWIU, with a request that they be donated to the museum.
This badge was made for members of the International Union of Students (IUS), an organisation founded in the Czech Republic in 1946 that gained millions of supporters around the world. The initials around the badge, as well as the Chinese characters are all translations of IUS.
Physical Description
Circular metal badge with a long metal pin fastener at the back. In the centre there is a stylized depiction of the globe made in red and blue. On top of it is the IUS logo: an open book, which is not coloured and instead just shows the colour of the metal and a hand holding a flaming torch.
