Summary

A computer control interface,Technic Control model no 70288, part number 9750 made for the LEGO Group,1986. This computer interface was designed for educational use with programmable robotic toys.

The control system includes:
- the interface box
- a 20-pin computer connecting cable
- a power supply via a 7V adapter
- software diskettes
- an interface card for the computer (IBM or Apple).

This object forms part of the Sunrise Collection which includes educational robots, software and multimedia recordings of teachers and students, mainly in Victoria, exploring new possibilities with computer programming. 'Computational thinking' in a constructionist environment was emerging in Victoria throughout the 1980s and 90s.

Physical Description

A black hard-plastic rectangular sealed box of trapezoid cross-section with a square pad in each of the four corners of its base. There is a rectangular, gloss black label with printed text in silver affixed to the base. On the sloping top surface of the box there is a red plastic rectangular button protruding from a hole at one end. There are seven red plastic light-emitting diodes and two green plastic light-emitting diodes protruding from holes in the top surface each aligned with holes for a two-pin connecting plug. The nine lights and associated 2-pin connector holes are linked diagrammatically on the surface to the red button with white printed lines and with letters and numerals identifying them. On the front sloped edge of the top surface there is a logo cast in the plastic at the right end. On the right end of the box there is an inset male 20-pin connector plug and a circular 1-pin connector socket. On the rear side of the box there is a square paper sticker with white text outlined in yellow, printed on a red background.
