Summary
Round badge with the slogan 'When you've seen one nuclear war you've seen them all', circa 1960s-1980s. This is one of a series of badges and peace movement posters acquired by the museum following the exhibition 'Peace: an Exhibition' which explored the Peace movement and was part of the Victorian Government contribution to International Year of Peace in 1986. The badges explore the peace movement, nuclear disarmament and Hiroshima.
This sentence is a famous slogan of the anti-nuclear campaign in the eighties. The Biteback Dictionary of Humorous Political Quotations credits the phrase as having come from a t-shirt in London in 1986. This just shows how wide-spread the saying was, and how it emerged from the heart of activism as a phrase belonging to no-one in particular.
