Summary
Round badge with the slogan 'Together We Can Stop the Bomb', circa 1960s-1980s. This is one of a series of badges and peace movement posters acquired by the museum following the exhibition 'Peace: an Exhibition' which explored the Peace movement and was part of the Victorian Government contribution to International Year of Peace in 1986. The badges explore the peace movement, nuclear disarmament and Hiroshima.
The initials AICD on the side stand for Association for International Co-operation and Disarmament, which in the early eighties became People for Nuclear Disarmament. The Australian organisation had been active since 1960 and heavily involved in non-violent protests for peace and nuclear disarmament. 'Together we can stop the bomb' was a popular slogan for anti-nuclear campaigns, it was also used by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, a British organisation with international influence, as a title for a large march in London in 1981, for example.
