Summary
Alternative Name(s): Button
This badge was made circa 1968 - 1973 and used in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia around the same period. It was worn by the donor during anti-Vietnam war and anti-conscription rallies. He was a student at Monash University between 1968 and 1973, and was involved in student politics, including membership of the militant Students for a Democratic Society. The badge was probably produced by Students for a Democratic Society at Monash University, members of which were the most vociferous supporters of the National Liberation Front (NLF). It bears the colours of the NLF, the communist political organisation in Vietnam at the time. The yellow star on top of a red and blue background later became the flag of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam, an underground structure created in opposition to the official South Vietnamese government in 1969. The NFL and the PRG had support from most communist states and left-leaning organisations.
Physical Description
Badge with central yellow star with light blue background one side and red background other side.
