Summary

A fire testing prototype of the ARL Flight Memory Recorder unit. This unit was tested by the Aeronautical Research Laboratories under extreme heat to ensure it would survive an aircraft accident and subsequent fuel fire.
This invention subsequently became colloquially known as the 'black box flight recorder'.
