Darling Point. Lindesay was the first residence on Darling Point. It was in 1834 by Colonial Treasurer Campbell Drummond Riddell, the first colonial house built in the Gothic Style. Its high position made it visible for miles around, and it commanded sweeping views of the Harbour. It has been owned by the National Trust since 1963, and today contains a fine collection of English and Colonial furniture. The National Trust of Australia (NSW) is an independent, non-government, community-based organisation. It was formed in 1945 to prevent the destruction of built and natural heritage. Today it is Australia's oldest and largest organisation for the protection of heritage.
