Located on the corner with Balston Street at 171-205 City Road, South Melbourne, the International Harvester Company of Australia officially opened Harvester House as its new Australian head office on 22 May 1939. From 1926 to 1936, the same building had been the Australian headquarters of General Motors Australia and General Motors-Holden's. Harvester House featured a glass-fronted showroom for the display of International trucks, Farmall tractors and McCormick-Deering agricultural equipment. Upstairs was a large administrative office area. The rear of the building was occupied by a fully-equiped servicing and assembly shop along with a spare parts store. Total floor space for the building was 189,788 square feet or 17,632 square metres. The building was used by the firm until the early 1980s when it ceased operations in Australia.
