Part of General Sir Edmund Herring collection. Herring served in both World Wars I and II. He earning the Distinguished Service Order and the Military Cross in World War I, and became a renowned senior officer during World War II, including commanding the New Guinea Force from September 1942. He later served for 20 years as Victoria's Chief Justice; was Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria for a record 27 years; was Chancellor of the Diocese of Melbourne; was President of the Boy Scouts' Association of Victoria for 23 years; and became President of the Australian Boy Scouts' Association.
