Summary

Copy of sketch by Andrew Carter showing a 'Tramis-wheel' a combination of a ferris wheel and a tram, which was one of the earliest introductions of a tram into the concept for the Opening Ceremony.

This sketch was identified by Christina Smith, the first full-time member of the Design team on the Opening Ceremony of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, as a sketch by Andrew Carter from one of the early 'blue sky' brainstorming sessions held in 2005 while the Creative team was coming up with concepts for the Ceremony. According to Smith, the tramis-wheel was a joke, as was the idea of putting wings on a tram. Nonetheless, the idea of a flying tram stuck, and it persisted to be one of the most memorable images of the Ceremony.
