Summary
1:20 scale model Flying Tram made by designers from the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Ceremonies team. It is one of the earliest incarnations of the Flying Tram that appeared in the Opening Ceremony of the Games. Earlier versions include two sketches, with one having a ferris wheel on top of the tram, rather than wings.
Constructed from foam core board and based on an simple schematic of a W Class Melbourne Tram, this model is very close to the appearance of the tram that appeared in the Ceremony. The model was used as a visual reference to assist creative and technical staff in developing the 'Welcome to Melbourne' segment of the Ceremony which was directed by Nigel Triffit.
