Summary

Illustrated product catalogue covering a range of agricultural equipment manufactured and imported by H.V. McKay, with detailed descriptions of their functions and possible uses. It includes an outline of the 'Sun' Twin-Disc Stump Jump Cultivator "specifically adapted for work amongst Mallee Stumps".

An interesting element of the catalogue is the sale of rabbit proof metal gates. Throughout the catalogue there are small etchings of the Sunshine Harvester Works as well as farmers using McKay products for their work. The back cover features a large full page view of the Sunshine Harvester works with smoking chimneys and trains leaving and travelling past the factory.

The original publication date for this catalogue is most likely to have been about 1914, as the H.V. McKay branch addresses listed on the front cover include Stanley Street, South Brisbane, which was not in use by the company until 1914, with advertisements published up to March 1914 listing the company's previous address at the corner Adelaide & Albert Streets, Brisbane.

On page 5, it is mentioned in relation to the 'Sunflower' disc cultivator that 'This implement has been phenominally successful, and in the short space of two years has jumped into the proud position of the Leading Disc Cultivator of the Commonwealth.' The 'Sunflower' was first produced in 1907. Interestingly, the catalogue includes no mention of the steel-framed Sunshine Stripper Harvester first released in 1909 or the Scott petrol engines introduced in 1912, both of which were to become key products for the company over subsequent years.
