Summary
Copy of a medal bearing a portrait of Pope Paul III (1534-1550). The original medal, attributed to Alessandro Cesati (Il Greco), was struck in 1547. This two piece electrotype copy was made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. Electrotype taken from a medal from the collection of George III (British Museum Reg: G3,PMAE5.51) exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881, No. 86 in the catalogue of that exhibition. The original medal is struck bronze, this piece is copper plated and toned.
