Summary

Copy of a medal bearing a portrait of Pope Julius II (1503-1513). The original medal, possibly by Francesco Raibolini (Francia the Painter) or Pier Maria Serbaldi da Pescia, was struck in 1505 or 1506. This two piece electrotype copy was made circa 1881 by Robert Ready. Electrotype taken from a medal exhibited in the King's Library of the British Museum in 1881, No. 76 in the catalogue of that exhibition. The original medal is struck bronze, this piece is copper plated and toned.

Pope Julius II commissioned the rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica and Michelangelo's decoration of the Sistine Chapel.
