Summary
Alternative Name(s): Button
This badge was produced by the British Socialist Workers Party in their early 1980s campaign for nuclear disarmament and especially against United States policies. The button features a caricature of a controversial figure in American history, Ronald Reagan. Despite repeatedly claiming that his mission was to achieve a world entirely free of nuclear weapons, he was seen by many contemporaries as a champion of the bomb. Holding office during the Cold War, he increased the military and defence budgets. Measures like these, amid the climate of constant fear perpetrated by the Arms Race led citizens to feel like Reagan's policies are pushing the world in the direction of nuclear destruction. There were dozens of anti-Reagan songs written and students put on countless protests and manifestations.
