Description of the Sunshine Harvester Works' 'Back Shed'.
The Sunshine Harvester Works 'Back Shed' was a huge area divided into three storage sections. One area was for finished machines ready for export, while another contained machinery for Victorian distribution (also known as the 'Melbourne Branch'). The Melbourne Branch supplied machines and equipment to Victorian dealers. The third section was the'Annexe' which stored surplus and out-dated machinery.
In later years, the Back Shed was used by the Industrial & Construction Machinery (ICM) Division for assembling the back-hoes and loaders which were manufactured in the company's Bendigo factory and imported from Germany and the United Kingdom.
At one point, the 'Melbourne Branch' was staffed by ten clerks, a warehouse foreman and 20 assemblers and painters. Known employees in this branch included manager Bill Dinnell and warehouse foreman Tim Pickett.
Equipment in the Back Shed included mobile cranes and forklifts. In 1972, the building was sold to Hanover Holdings.
