Summary
This letter of sympathy was one of a large number sent to his trainer and part owner Harry Telford after Phar Lap died in April, 1932. The Telford family retained the letters, and they were donated to the museum in the 1990s.

Text: To Mr. H. Telford/Dear Sir,/I am just writing these few lines to/tell you how greatest sympathy for you/in your great lose of the Wonderful/favourite. (Phar Lap)./It as been a dreadful shock to us/Tasmanians, he was a favourite with us all/though we never saw him, We only read about/him and we quite understand what a wonder he/was./I am writing these few lines though it is/hard, Mr. Telford I am asking a favour of you if/you would send my wife and I some little/thing belonging to our favourite for a keepsake./We are only working people but we thought/he was an angel from the sky./Dear Sir. we quite understand what a broken/hearted man you must be, as we are just the/same. Because he was so different to others horses./Mr. Telford/Please dont be anoyed/with myself and the wife for asking/you but we would cherish/some little thing.
