Summary
This letter of sympathy was one of a large number sent to his trainer and part owner Harry Telford after Phar Lap died in April, 1932. The Telford family retained the letters, and they were donated to the museum in the 1990s.

Text: Dear Mr. Telford & Mr. Davis/I am just a woman who/has only twice been on a racecourse, I do/not follow the sport, but I do love animals./I have never seen yur beautiful &/wonderful horse, but I followed with the/deepest interest all his movements./My only hope last year listening in/to the Cup was that he would win it./My joy was unbounded when he won/the race in America. My sorrow today/is as tho I had lost my dearest friend/for I have wept all day at the news/of your beautiful Phar Laps death./I am a New Zealander & I suppose/I loved him more because he was one/too. It was at least a little/comfort when I read today you intend/bringing him to Australia, as so many/express the wish you will do so, tho/it will be a sad day for me, I must/see him. I cannot forget his picture/when he was leaving Sydney, which/was entitled "Phar Laps last glimpse/of Australia", but I never thought/it coulod be./I beg that he will be placed in/a prominent place where everybody/will be able to see him./It is too terrible to thinks he is dead/I cannot make myself believe it is/true. I can only offer you my/deepest sympathy in the loss of your/beautiful much loved Phar Lap.
